Rob Manfred: A's Relocation Plans To Vegas Still 'Solid'

Feb 28, 2024 7:44 AM

Rob Manfred said Tuesday that he still expects the Oakland Athletics to move to Las Vegas, calling the club's relocation plans "solid."

The commissioner did acknowledge things have not been particularly easy thus far though.

"I think Las Vegas is solid, I really do," Manfred said. "It was a little rough with the mayor, Clark County versus the city. But, you know, from my perspective, (Las Vegas major Carolyn Goodman) was the first person who ever talked to me about baseball in Las Vegas.

"I understand all politics are local, and the county is different than the city, but I think the governor and the politicians in general in Las Vegas remain committed to the deal. I think the deal is going to happen."

In addition to the financing and new stadium renderings, the Athletics also have to figure out where they'll play from 2025-27.

Report: Sacramento 'Front Runner' For A's 2025-27 Home

Feb 19, 2024 8:44 AM

The Oakland Athletics are expected to become the Las Vegas Athletics in 2028.

Meanwhile, the Athletics will need a temporary home for the 2025-27 seasons. They'll remain in Oakland for the 2024 season.

The three options would be remaining in Oakland, playing in Salt Lake City or playing in Sacramento, according to a report.

Sacramento is the "front runner" to become the A's temporary home.

According to the report, the A's would be able to keep a portion of their TV revenue if they went to Sacramento, which isn't all that far away from the Bay Area.

Rob Manfred 'Disappointed' If A's Las Vegas Stadium Not Open By 2028

Feb 9, 2024 12:50 AM

As uncertainty still hovers around the move of the Oakland A's to Las Vegas, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is confident the plan will come together in time, both in the short and longer term.

"I would be disappointed if we didn't open that stadium, Opening Day, 2028," Manfred said Thursday from the owners meetings. "In terms of an interim home [from 2025 to 2028] I'm comfortable with where they are in the process.

"It's not like we don't know where they'll be in 2024. They're doing a good job of exploring them and find the best possible opportunity."

Feb 6, 2024 4:28 PM

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman isn't exactly extending a warm embrace to the Oakland Athletics, who plan to build a $1.5 billion stadium in her city.

In fact, Goodman said the team's stadium plan "does not make sense" and that A's ownership should go back to the drawing board and pitch a new plan in the Bay Area.

"I personally think [the A's have] got to figure out a way to stay in Oakland to make their dream come true," Goodman told the Front Office Sports Today podcast, which was released Tuesday.
