A's, Alex Wood In Agreement On Contract

Jan 28, 2024 2:10 AM

Alex Wood appears to be swapping Bay Area teams.

The Athletics reportedly are in agreement with Wood on a contract, FanSided's Robert Murray reported Saturday, citing sources.

The deal is pending a physical, Murray added, though no contract figures or length of deal were reported.

Wood, who recently turned 33, is coming off a three-year stint with the Giants. The left-handed pitcher posted a 23-21 record in that span, along with a 4.41 ERA and 1.270 WHIP.

Sacramento Among Potential Home Venues For A's In 2025

Jan 16, 2024 8:34 AM

The Oakland Athletics are moving to Las Vegas, but their new stadium won't be ready until 2028.

The team's lease at the Coliseum in Oakland expires at the end of next season, which means they'll need to find a home for the intervening three years.

A's president Dave Kaval has floated the possibility of a short-term lease extension at the Coliseum, but that would require approval from Oakland officials.

Other options include sharing Oracle Park with the San Francisco Giants or playing at their Triple-A affiliate's field in Summerlin, Nevada.

According to a report, Sacramento is a fourth option. Sacramento's Sutter Health Park is also a Triple-A venue — in this case, the home of the Giants affiliate, the River Cats.

Oakland Upset After A's Block Minor League Game

Jan 9, 2024 7:52 AM

The city of Oakland has mailed a letter to Athletics president Dave Kaval expressing concerns with the club's decision to block a minor league game by the expansion Oakland Ballers that had been scheduled for the Coliseum on June 29.

The A's will be on the road at the time the new minor league independent team wanted to host a special night at the venue.

The "B's" had a signed agreement in place for that date and a deposit paid when they learned late last month the big league team vetoed the plan without providing a reason.

Rebecca Kaplan, a council member at-large, and District 6 representative Kevin Jenkins mailed their joint letter Monday and asked for a prompt explanation.

A's Blocked Plan For Minor League B's To Play At Coliseum

Jan 5, 2024 8:11 AM

The Oakland Athletics have blocked the minor league Oakland B's plan to play at the Coliseum for a night in June.

Major League Baseball owners unanimously approved the A's relocation to Las Vegas in November, and the team plans to move into a new stadium on the Las Vegas Strip in 2028.

The A's have exclusive rights to play professional baseball at the Coliseum and declined to grant consent for the B's based on their license agreement with the Coliseum Authority.

The B's, an expansion club in the independent Pioneer League, were set to begin ticket sales this week for a game June 29 against the Colorado Owlz in what they hoped would be "a celebration of Oakland's baseball legacy and the Coliseum" and "a joyful farewell and celebration."
