Braves Sign Sean Murphy To Six-Year, $73M Contract

The Atlanta Braves have signed standout catcher Sean Murphy to a six-year, $73 million contract, the team announced Tuesday night.

The deal ties Murphy, 28, to Atlanta through the 2028 season. It includes a $15 million club option with no buyout for 2029.

Murphy was acquired earlier this month as part of a three-way trade with the Oakland Athletics and Milwaukee Brewers that saw nine players switch teams overall.

Right-hander Trevor May and the Oakland Athletics have finalized a $7 million, one-year contract.

May gets a $1 million signing bonus, payable next November, and a $6 million salary next season. He can earn $500,000 in performance bonuses as part of the agreement announced Friday: $125,000 each for 35, 40, 45 and 50 games finished.

The Giants filled out their starting rotation Sunday night by agreeing to a two-year, $25 million deal with left-hander Sean Manaea, according to MLB Network insider Jon Heyman. The club has not confirmed or announced the deal, which reportedly includes an opt-out clause.

The move will bring Manaea back to the Bay Area, where he spent the first six seasons of his career with the A’s.

Where the 28-year-old catcher is headed remains unclear.

Murphy has been linked to the St. Louis Cardinals, Cleveland Guardians, Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox.

A Gold Glove Award winner, Murphy hit .250/.332/.426 with 18 home runs and 66 RBIs for the A's in 2022.
