Astros Prospect Drives In 12 Runs In Cal League Debut

Astros 2014 first-round draft pick Derek Fisher made his California League debut for the Lancaster Jethawks, Houston's Class-A advanced affiliate, and in a matter of five plate appearances on Saturday night established a new league record by driving in 12 runs in a single game.

Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre will be out at least two weeks after he left Sunday's game with a sprained thumb.

Beltre, who had two hits and two RBIs against the Red Sox, suffered the injury sliding into second base in the fifth inning.

Justin Verlander Struggles In Rehab Start

Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander struggled in his first rehabilitation start, giving up three runs in 2 2/3 innings for Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.

The former AL MVP and Cy Young winner is trying to work his way back into the Tigers' rotation from a right triceps injury he sustained in spring training.

The Tigers have not announced whether Verlander will continue his rehab or now join the major league team.

Dodgers Place Paco Rodriguez On DL With Elbow Strain

The Dodgers placed left-handed reliever Paco Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a strained pitching elbow, according to an ESPN.com report.

Rodriguez has been feeling some discomfort for several days, manager Don Mattingly said, and will travel back to Los Angeles to consult with team physician Neal ElAttrache.

Bryce Harper May Skip HR Derby

Despite being tied for major league lead in home runs, Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper is considering skipping out on the home run derby.

Harper told the Cincinnati Enquirer that he may not participate in the long ball event but that he hasn't made a final decision.

"We'll see if I end up doing it or not," Harper said. "As of right now, I don't know if I'll end up doing it."

Two days after making his first appearance of the season, A's closer Sean Doolittle was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left shoulder.

"It's another muscle, almost under the armpit, that he strained,'' A's manager Bob Melvin said before Saturday's game with the Yankees. "It will be a couple of weeks of inactivity before he picks up a baseball.''

Brewers Lose Khris Davis To Torn Meniscus

They Brewers lost another regular when left fielder Khris Davis left Milwaukee's loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday after taking an awkward swing while striking out in the first inning. A frustrated Davis said after the game that he will need surgery Tuesday for a torn meniscus in his right knee.

Asked how tough a season it has been for the team, Davis responded with just two words.

"The worst," he said.

Mozeliak says that the Cardinals' circumstances this past offseason, specifically the death of 22-year-old right fielder Oscar Taveras, factored into the four-player trade with the Braves that sent Heyward to St. Louis.
