Giants May Be Favorites To Sign Jay Bruce

Dec 23, 2017 1:34 AM

After acquiring Evan Longoria earlier this week, the San Francisco Giants may be preparing to add another bat to their offense.

They are considered the favorites to sign Jay Bruce in free agency.

"I think it works out as a perfect fit for the Giants, and we have to figure out the lay of the land, whether it works for the Giants and if it works for us," agent Matt Sosnick said Wednesday on KNBR-AM. "I think if Jay ended up in San Francisco, he'd be thrilled."

Bruce was deep in talks with the Houston Astros, but those negotiations unraveled.

Tim Lincecum Eyeing Comeback, Plans To Hold Showcase

Dec 20, 2017 7:19 AM

A bulked up Tim Lincecum is ready to attempt a Major League comeback.

Lincecum, 33, hasn't pitched in the Major Leagues since a disappointing stint with the Los Angeles Angels in 2016.

Colorado Rockies pitcher Adam Ottavino posted a photo of Lincecum on his Instagram account Tuesday. Kyle Boddy of the Driveline Baseball facility in suburban Seattle then linked to the photo on Twitter and said that Lincecum will audition for teams "in the near future."

Lincecum has disappeared from public view since leaving baseball.

Giants Looking Into Trade For Maikel Franco

Dec 18, 2017 8:03 AM

The San Francisco Giants are considering a trade for Maikel Franco, according to a report.

The club shed some salary when they traded Matt Moore to the Texas Rangers last week.

Dealing Moore saved them $9 million and they now have roughly $21 million to spend while still remaining under the luxury tax threshold.

Franco hasn't yet lived up to his initial promise with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Rangers Send Two Prospects To Giants For Matt Moore

Dec 16, 2017 8:43 PM

Texas acquired Matt Moore in a trade with the San Francisco Giants on Friday, raising the possibility of four left-handers in the Rangers' rotation.

"As far as the four lefties, generally it's a good thing," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. "I realize there's some very heavy right-handed clubs in our division. With the exception of Martin [Perez], the other three guys have been very effective against righties in their career."

Texas sent minor league right-handers Israel Cruz and Sam Wolff to the Giants. The Rangers also received $750,000 in international signing bonus pool allotment from the Giants.

Marlins Gave Giancarlo Stanton Ultimatum To Pick Giants Or Cardinals

Dec 12, 2017 2:44 PM

The Miami Marlins negotiated Giancarlo Stanton trades with the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals and then told Stanton that he had to pick one of the two destinations.

The Marlins gave Stanton an ultimatum that he'd be stuck with the Marlins until his 2020 opt-out if he didn't pick one of the clubs.

Stanton respects both the Giants and Cardinals, but preferred going to a more established contender.

While Stanton took meetings with the Giants and Cardinals, he was never close to approving a trade to either team.

The Marlins began to aggressively pursue a trade with the Yankees when they were unable to change Stanton's mind on the Giants or Cardinals.

The San Francisco Giants are unlikely to sign a free agent like Mike Moustakas, who received a qualifying offer from his former club.

They don't want to give up a compensatory draft pick to sign a player.

The Giants have varying interest in Jay Bruce, Todd Frazier and J.D. Martinez as they look to bolster their offense.

Jeter Says 'No Decisions' Have Been Made On Giancarlo Stanton

Dec 7, 2017 8:33 AM

Derek Jeter says the Miami Marlins have made no decisions regarding Giancarlo Stanton, who is on the trading block following an MVP season.

The San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals are considered the front-runners to land Stanton in a possible trade. However, Stanton has a full no-trade clause in his massive contract.

"We will explore every option out there to make our organization better," Jeter said. "There have been no decisions. We have not made many decisions on the baseball side. We're still gathering information. Anything up to this point has been speculation."

Stanton is owed $295 million over the final decade of his contract, including $25 million in 2018.
