The San Francisco Giants were the first Major League team to meet face-to-face with Japanese star Shohei Ohtani, according to a source.

The Giants were also the first club to sit down with Giancarlo Stanton to sell him on a potential trade last week. San Francisco sent a large group of officials who met with Ohtani on Monday in Los Angeles.

Ohtani was officially posted by his Japanese club, the Nippon-Ham Fighters, on Friday after a new posting system was ratified unanimously by Major League clubs.

Per multiple reports, the seven clubs who remained in the running for Ohtani were the Giants, Los Angeles Angels, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres and Texas Rangers.
