The San Francisco Giants met with representatives for Giancarlo Stanton in Los Angeles on Thursday as the club looks to pull off a trade for the slugger, according to sources.

The meeting was approved by the Miami Marlins. It couldn't have taken place otherwise.

Stanton needs to waive his no-trade clause in order for any trade to go through.

He is owed $295 million over the final decade of his record $325 million, 13-year contract.
