Scott Hairston Hits For Cycle, Mets Lose
The Rockies defeated the Mets 18-9 on Friday night, spoiling Scott Hairston's cycle.
Hairston became the 10th player in team history and first in the majors this season to hit for the cycle.
"It is bittersweet," Hairston said. "It was great while it was happening. But when they kept scoring runs, it really wasn't that enjoyable, to say the least."
Pelfrey Almost Certain To Need Tommy John
Mets right-hander Mike Pelfrey said he is "99 percent" certain he will need to have season-ending Tommy John surgery.
He had an MRI exam that revealed a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow. He will fly to Alabama to meet with Dr. James Andrews.
"I'll go down and see Dr. Andrews personally and we'll go from there. But there's a 99 percent chance it's going to happen," Pelfrey said. "Obviously it's frustrating. I've never been hurt. It's only been three days and I don't know what I'm doing with myself."
Reyes: Mets Should Re-Sign Wright
Playing his first series against the Mets since leaving as a free agent to sign with the Marlins, Jose Reyes offered his former team some free advice: re-sign David Wright.
"That's good if they can bring David back, he's a symbol of the game," he said.
Wright is in the final guaranteed season of the six-year, $55 million extension he signed at age 23.
The Mets hold a $16 million team option for 2013.
Mets Fear Pelfrey May Need Tommy John
Mike Pelfrey has only officially been diagnosed with right elbow inflammation, but the Mets fear he may eventually need Tommy John surgery.
New York general manager Sandy Alderson said ligament damage has not been ruled out for Pelfrey.
A Major League source said that team officials are aware Pelfrey has a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament and they are bracing to lose him to season-ending surgery.
Wright Becomes Mets' Career Leader In RBI
David Wright hit a two-run home run in New York's 5-1 win over Miami on Wednesday night to become the team's all-time RBI leader.
The home run broke a tie with Darryl Strawberry atop the Mets' career list.
"It's nice being mentioned for the individual things but what I really want is to be mentioned, have that type of legacy that those guys had in '86 and even the Mike Piazza era and the Subway Series," Wright said.
"That's ultimately where I want to be mentioned."
Wright's homer gave him 735 RBI.
Mets Didn't Attempt To Re-Sign Reyes
During his first trip back to New York since he left the Mets, Jose Reyes said the team never attempted to re-sign him.
"If they don't make me any offer," the Marlins shortstop said, "that means they don't want me to play here. That's why I play for another team now."
Reyes repeatedly told reporters that he no longer fretted over New York's decision to sit out his free-agent courtship.
When asked if he would've stayed with the Mets if they had matched Miami's six-year, $106-million offer, Reyes said:
"That's in the past. If I say yes, if I say no, that's not going to change anything. ... I can't say if I was going to stay here or not because they didn't offer anything."
Mets Place Bay On DL With Rib Fracture
The Mets have placed Jason Bay on the disabled list with a non-displaced fracture of a rib on his left side.
Bay suffered the injury on a full-extension attempt at a catch in Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the Giants.
Zach Lutz, a corner infielder, has been promoted from Triple-A Buffalo to take Bay's roster spot.
Mets Sticking With Francisco As Closer
The Mets will stick with Frank Francisco as their closer.
Francisco has assured manager Terry Collins that the knee woes that troubled him late in spring training are not hampering his performance.
He has been charged with runs in each of his past four appearances.
"I just told him [Saturday] was one of those days, that he's still the closer here and to be ready to pitch when we get him back out there," Collins said.
"... I just went to him this morning and said, 'You've got to hang in there.' He's disappointed. He's mad at me because I took him out, which is the common thing that happens. And I certainly don't blame him. If I was in his shoes, I'd be mad too."

Former Mets outfielder Lenny Dykstra has been sentenced to nine months in jail after pleading no contest to charges he exposed himself to women he met on Craigslist and assaulted one, according to an ESPN.com report on Thursday.
Mets' Wright Cleared To Play
The Mets say David Wright has been cleared to play by a hand specialist who examined the third baseman's broken right pinkie.
Wright sat out games on Tuesday and Wednesday after learning he broke his finger diving back to a base Monday night.
The Mets said in a statement the team's No. 3 hitter was cleared to resume baseball activities "as tolerated."
