The New York Mets have agreed to a one-year, $9.7 million deal with Noah Syndergaard.
The agreement allowed the two sides to avoid salary arbitration.
Syndergaard, 28 missed the 2020 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow last March. He'll be a free agent after the 2021 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets seem to be the favorites to sign George Springer, according to a report.
Major League executives believe Springer's free agency is now "a two-team race."
Springer, 31, hit .265/.359/.540 in 189 at-bats during the 2020 season.

The Mariners have not confirmed the deal, which is pending the completion of a physical. The New York Post reported that Flexen will earn $4.75 million over the two seasons.
The 26-year-old spent last season in Korea, where he posted an 8-4 record and a 3.01 ERA in 21 starts for the Doosan Bears. Prior to that, he’d gone 3-11 with an 8.07 ERA in 27 appearances -- including 11 starts -- over three years with the Mets.
Flexen was drafted out of high school, attending Newark Memorial High School, Newark, California.

McCann, 30, hit .289/.360/.536 with seven homers and 15 RBI in 31 games last season for the Chicago White Sox.
