Matt Harvey 'Feeling Great' After July Surgery

Dec 15, 2016 6:47 AM

Matt Harvey is feeling good after undergoing season-ending surgery on July 18 in St. Louis to relieve thoracic outlet syndrome.

The procedure involved removing a rib so that muscles constricting a nerve that bridges the neck and shoulder had space to relax.

Harvey hopes to excel once again in 2017 as he did in his return from Tommy John surgery in 2015.

"I'd like to think so. Obviously I don't have a crystal ball," he said. "The way things are feeling now, the way the body feels, I'm feeling great."

The nerve issue led to a lack of feeling in his pitching fingers.

Mets Fielding Calls On Jay Bruce, Curtis Granderson

Dec 2, 2016 8:02 AM

The New York Mets have begun fielding calls on Jay Bruce and Curtis Granderson now that they've re-signed Yoenis Cespedes.

The club's preference is to trade Bruce, according to multiple sources.

The Mets appear to be looking for a reliever or a collection or prospects in return.

"We're always looking for value, whether that's in the form of a Major League-ready player or a prospect," Sandy Alderson said.

No-Trade Clause In Deal With Mets Was Key For Yoenis Cespedes

Dec 1, 2016 4:19 PM

Yoenis Cespedes would not have returned to the New York Mets without a full no-trade clause as part of his new four-year, $110 million contract, according to his agent.

"Without the ability to secure his future here, he wouldn't have signed here," Brodie Van Wagenen said Wednesday. "That was absolutely a deal point that had to be part of the contract."

Since arriving from Cuba for the 2012 season, Cespedes has been traded away by three teams and twice become a free agent after contracts with the Mets expired.

"I've experienced that now several times with Oakland, Boston, Detroit and then coming here," Cespedes said through an interpreter. "I didn't like that feeling of just when I was starting to get comfortable with the team that I could be gone. So that was a very important part for me."
