Scott Van Slyke Hurts Neck In NYC Taxi Incident

Scott Van Slyke took a cab ride on Saturday bound for the Dodgers' game against the Mets at Citi Field. but the trip took a turn for the worse in Manhattan when the outfielder/first baseman's driver slammed on the brakes to avoid another car.

Van Slyke's head hit the partition between the front and back seats, and he emerged with a neck problem.

Red Sox Place Pedroia Back On DL

The Red Sox on Saturday placed second baseman Dustin Pedroia back on the 15-day DL with a strained right hamstring, the same injury that cost him nearly a month of action straddling the All-Star break.

Pedroia was activated from the DL on July 17 but struggled. He was hitless in 18 at-bats over his first five games before a 1-for-4 effort Wednesday in Houston.

Pirates shortstop Jordy Mercer was carted off the field Sunday after a collision with the Brewers' Carlos Gomez, who was attempting to break up a double play.

The players collided in the second inning when Mercer was in front of the second base bag, attempting to tag Gomez, whose right knee appeared to make contact with Mercer's left knee.

Nori Aoki's Right Fibula 80 Percent Healed

Giants outfielder Nori Aoki is expected to begin baseball activity in about two weeks, manager Bruce Bochy said after Saturday's win over the D-Backs.

Aoki has been on the disabled list since June 24 with a small fracture in his right fibula. A recent CT scan showed the bone is 80 percent healed, Bochy said.

A federal lawsuit filed in San Francisco on Monday is trying to force MLB to install netting from foul pole to foul pole to protect spectators from flying bats and balls.

The lawsuit, filed on behalf of an A's fan and other season-ticket holders throughout the major leagues, does not ask for money.
