Toronto Wants Tallet To Start Upon Return

Sep 25, 2014 6:48 PM

Blue Jays starter Brian Tallet, on the 15-day disabled list with a forearm strain, is expected to be back "sometime in May" according to Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston. Tallet, who went on the DL April 18, is currently rehabbing at the Jays' Minor League facility in Dunedin, Fla. With the Blue Jays starting rotation pitching very well as of late, many wonder how Tallet will fit into the equation upon his return. "We're going to have him start," Gaston said. "We don't want to send him back to the bullpen only to bring him back as a starter. His program is based on that he's coming back as a starter."

Morneau Out Again, Not Worried About Back

Jul 22, 2014 4:00 PM

Twins first baseman Justin Morneau has missed the team's last two games, but isn't worried about his back. Morneau said Thursday morning he "tweaked" his back on the first swing of his last at-bat Tuesday night and insisted the injury is unrelated to the back issue that led to him missing the final few weeks of last season. "Hopefully I'll be good to go tomorrow," Morneau said. "I don't know, we'll see how it goes tomorrow when I get to the field and start swinging and stuff. Felt better yesterday than I thought it was going to when I woke up. Today, even better."

Hammel Leaves Start With Groin Injury

Sep 26, 2014 7:00 AM

Rockies pitcher Jason Hammel strained his right groin in Monday's loss to the Diamondbacks. "I don't want to go on the DL," he said. "I pride myself on being a healthy pitcher. We have an extra day off and maybe that will play into the situation and I won't miss any time." Hammel was hurt in the third inning and didn't return. "It happened on the last pitch of the third inning, but the pitch before that I could feel it tightening up," he said. "Then it popped on the last pitch. It doesn't feel too bad."

Sanchez Could Return To Giants In Mid-May

May 24, 2014 6:06 PM

The Giants are getting closer to having second baseman Freddy Sanchez back in the lineup. He has started playing in extended spring training games and could rejoin San Francisco by mid-May. Sanchez missed all of spring training after undergoing surgery on his non-throwing left shoulder in December. He's also coming off left knee surgery. "It looks like he's on his way now," manager Bruce Bochy said. "He's playing defense, swinging the bat ... he's doing everything. I'd put it right around two weeks."

Relief Appearance Hurt Felipe Lopez

Oct 21, 2014 1:44 PM

The Cardinals hope to get infielder Felipe Lopez back on Friday night against the Giants. He was all but unavailable for the team's last two games this week against the Diamondbacks. Lopez insisted Wednesday that elbow discomfort that had followed him since the team's first road trip has gradually gone away, though he did feel more discomfort after pitching a scoreless inning in last Saturday's marathon against the Mets. "It's a lot better than it was a couple days ago," said Lopez. "I'd be surprised if I couldn't go (tonight). It bothered me the other night, but it's improved a lot." Lopez pulled himself from his relief appearance against the Mets, saying afterward that "I didn't want to overdo it." At the time, the Cardinals didn't know Lopez had hurt himself while making a sliding defensive play in Milwaukee more than a week earlier.
