Royals, Getz Reach $1.05M Contract

Oct 23, 2014 10:09 PM

The Royals and Chris Getz have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.05 million contract.

"My scenario wasn't very complicated," Getz said. "Obviously, this is the place I wanted to be and was willing to make it work. They were as well. I’m extremely happy to be back.

"I'm looking forward to coming to spring training prepared to help a team that is making some positive moves."

Getz gets a slight raise from $967,500 after an injury-plagued season that limited him to 64 games.

Jeter Has Added Weight During Recovery

Sep 17, 2014 1:53 AM

Derek Jeter appears to have packed on some weight as he recovers from ankle surgery.

He broke his ankle in Game 1 of the ALCS against the Tigers.

The New York Post snapped a picture of Jeter in South Beach on Thursday. He is wearing a walking boot and has a noticeable stomach under a blue shirt.

Jeter has been in a non-weight bearing situation and will continue to be until January. That means if he has been able to work out at all, it has been limited to upper body because he can’t put any weight on his left foot.

In need of starters, the Angels have acquired Tommy Hanson from the Braves in exchange for Jordan Walden.

Hanson is 45-32 with a 3.61 ERA in four seasons with the Braves.

He is expected to earn about $4 million next season as a first-year arbitration-eligible player.

Walden was the primary closer for the Angels in 2011, but battled a shoulder injury in 2012 and pitched primarily in middle relief.

Orioles Unlikely To Tender Reynolds, Making Him Free Agent

Sep 18, 2014 7:59 PM

The Orioles appear unlikely to tender Mark Reynolds a contract by Friday night's deadline, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Reynolds was the club's starting first baseman in 2012 and excelled defensively once he made the switch from third base.

The expectation is that Reynolds would make $9 million in arbitration. Even if the Orioles non-tender him, Baltimore will likely attempt to re-sign him at a reduced rate. However, if he hits the open market there will undoubtedly be suitors that will cloud his future with the Orioles.
