Toronto Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. has been named the cover athlete for this year's edition of MLB The Show.

MLB The Show traveled to Guerrero's hometown in the Dominican Republic in December to film a special documentary in honor of him being named the 2024 cover athlete.

Vlad Guerrero, Sr. was on the cover of MLB 2006 -- the predecessor to MLB The Show -- which was the final edition of the video game before it became "The Show."

The Toronto Blue Jays and Justin Turner have agreed to a one-year deal worth $13 million, a source confirmed to ESPN.

Turner can make an additional $1.5 million in bonuses, according to multiple reports. The deal was first reported Tuesday by MLB Network.

Justin Turner remains a free agent, but the veteran is "increasingly likely" to join a new team this week, according to a report.

Turner has been linked to several teams over the course of the offseason, including the Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays.

Jimy Williams, who won 910 games as a major league manager and was the 1999 American League Manager of the Year, has died at the age of 80.

The Boston Red Sox said he died in Florida after a brief illness.

"Jimy Williams was a true staple and leader of the Red Sox," the team said in a post to X.

Domingo German is in talks with at least six clubs, according to a report.

The Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles are included in that group.

German, who threw a perfect game with the New York Yankees last June 28, had a 4.56 ERA and 114 strikeouts in 108 2/3 innings last season.

The Toronto Blue Jays have reached an agreement on a four-year, $32 million deal with Cuban right-hander Yariel Rodriguez, according to various reports.

The deal is pending a physical and the resolution of immigration issues.

Rodriguez is currently in the Dominican Republic.

The 26-year-old went 10-10 with a 3.03 ERA in 79 relief appearances with Chunichi of the Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan from 2020 to 2022.

He last pitched for Cuba in the World Baseball Classic.

J.D. Martinez appears to have a robust market in free agency.

According to a report, at least six teams are interested in Martinez, but they are waiting for his asking price to decrease.

It was reported earlier this month that the New York Mets, Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Angels had some interest in Martinez.

Right-hander Jordan Hicks is set to become a regular starting pitcher after agreeing to a four-year, $44 million contract with the San Francisco Giants, a source familiar with the deal told ESPN's Jeff Passan on Friday.

Hicks, 27, had spent the majority of his career in the bullpen, with eight major league starts in 212 appearances over five seasons.

Outfielder Teoscar Hernández and the Los Angeles Dodgers agreed on a one-year, $23.5 million contract, sources told ESPN on Sunday, adding another All-Star bat to the lineup of a team that's already the World Series favorite.

Ross Atkins says he was "very disappointed" that Shohei Ohtani turned down the Toronto Blue Jays earlier this offseason in favor of signing a 10-year, $700 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Atkins confirmed Ohtani visited Toronto's spring training facility in Dunedin, Florida, but wouldn't say whether the meeting occurred Dec. 4, when Atkins spoke to reporters at the winter meetings via Zoom rather than in person. Ohtani announced his agreement with the Dodgers five days later.

"We were obviously very disappointed with the outcome, and it was a very difficult phone call to receive, one of the more difficult ones in my career," Atkins said. "At the same time, [it was an] incredible process and group effort and collaboration that I feel so good about, not only that process but what it meant to be in that position for the organization, for the city, for the country. There's no doubt in my mind he was exceptionally attracted to this country, this city, this team. We felt incredible about the process, but we moved on."

The general manager added that he didn't think the Blue Jays were used to extract a better offer from a competing bidder.

"Absolutely not," he said. "I feel strongly otherwise. We feel really good about the process. It was an incredible effort from ownership to business to baseball, people coming together. Not the outcome we wanted, but feel really good about the process and absolutely felt like it was authentic and real."
