Kevin Kiermaier, Blue Jays Agree To One-Year, $10.5M Deal

Gold Glove-winning center fielder Kevin Kiermaier is staying in Toronto, agreeing to a $10.5 million, one-year contract.

The team announced the contract on Thursday. The Blue Jays also have Daulton Varsho and George Springer in their outfield.

The 33-year-old Kiermaier hit .265 with 8 homers and 36 RBIs in 129 games in his first season with Toronto. He also won his fourth Gold Glove.

The deal, which is pending a physical, will pay the outfielder $10.5 million in guaranteed money.

The 33-year-old, known for his defense, slashed .265/.322/.419 in 408 plate appearances for the Blue Jays in 2023.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Dodgers Agree To 12-Year, $325M Deal

Yoshinobu Yamamoto and the Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to a 12-year, $325 million deal. As part of the deal, the Dodgers will pay the Orix Buffaloes a $50.6 million posting fee.

Yamamoto, who has a pair of opt-outs in the contract, will receive a $50 million signing bonus. The deal contains no deferred money.

The New York Mets offered a similar contract to Yamamoto as the Dodgers, while the New York Yankees offered $300 million despite being the prohibitive favorite. 

The Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays were in the bidding.

The Dodgers previously signed Shohei Ohtani this offseason.

Bettors at sportsbooks in the United States and Canada rushed to bet on the Toronto Blue Jays to win the World Series on Friday afternoon when it was reported that Shohei Ohtani was on a private jet to Toronto.

On Friday, with rumors of Ohtani's interest in Toronto swirling, the Blue Jays' World Series odds improved from 15-1 to as short as 8-1.

Later Friday afternoon, it was revealed that Canadian entrepreneur Robert Herjavec of "Shark Tank" fame was on the private jet being tracked to Toronto, not Ohtani.

The next day, Ohtani announced on social media that he was signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
