Encarnacion could draw significant interest on the free agent market after the 2016 season, especially from the Boston Red Sox. He has a history with manager John Farrell, who spent time in Toronto.

He is set to make $10 million in the final year of his four-year contract.

The Toronto Blue Jays will hire Ross Atkins as their new general manager, according to a source.
