The Philadelphia Phillies have been shopping for controllable pitching this offseason and have inquired about the availability of Chris Archer, Danny Duffy and Marcus Stroman.

They are looking to accelerate their rebuild after signing Carlos Santana and adding to their bullpen.

Kevin Gausman is changing his jersey number to honor Roy Halladay, who died in a plane crash in November.

The Baltimore Orioles pitcher will wear the No. 34 starting next season "to honor Roy Halladay both on and off the field."

"To me, Roy gave me the inspiration that I could fulfill even my biggest of dreams -- being a pitcher just like him," Gausman wrote on Twitter. "... The loss of Roy was tragic and is saddening, but I feel honored to have watched everything he achieved."

Like Halladay, Gausman grew up in Colorado.

The Blue Jays acquired infielder Aledmys Diaz from the Cardinals on Friday in exchange for minor league outfielder J.B. Woodman.

Diaz, a 27-year-old native of Cuba, was an All-Star as a breakout rookie in 2016 but slumped throughout last season, batting .259 with seven homers in 79 games. He is primarily a shortstop but has also played second base, third base and left field.
