The Detroit Tigers are bringing back catcher Alex Avila on a one-year contract worth $2 million.

Avila says he is excited for the opportunity to back up James McCann.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have "worked hard" to complete a trade with the Chicago White Sox for Jose Quintana, according to a report.

Abreu became eligible for arbitration earlier this offseason after opting out of the final three years of his six-year, $68 million deal, which he signed before the 2014 season.

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to a one-year, $6 million contract with Derek Holland.

Holland can earn an additional $2 million through incentives, according to reports.

He has missed time due to injury is each of the last three seasons.

The Washington Nationals acquired outfielder Adam Eaton from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for three pitchers Wednesday.

In return for Eaton, the Nationals sent right-handed pitchers Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and Dane Dunning to Chicago.

Chicago will receive Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech and two other prospects from the Red Sox.

Sale had a 3.34 ERA in 32 starts last season while making his fifth straight All-Star Game. Sale is under team control until 2019.

Moncada was considered the No. 1 prospect in the MLB by Baseball America in July.

The Chicago White Sox and Washington Nationals have advanced deep in trade discussions involving Chris Sale, according to a source.

Negotiations currently have the Nationals sending Lucas Giolito, Victor Robles and a low-level minor leaguer to the White Sox for Sale.

Sale will make $12 million in 2017 and his contract carries club options of $12.5 million for 2018 and $13.5 million for 2019.
