The Chicago White Sox have signed Jimmy Rollins to a Minor League contract.

If added to the 40-man roster, Rollins will receive a one-year, $2 million deal.

"The move appeals to us on a number of levels," general manager Rick Hahn said. "It's another quality option for our infield, some veteran depth in that area where we previously did not have it, and adds to what we feel is a quality mix in the clubhouse. This guy's a leader, brings energy and a competitive each day."

White Sox Linked To Ian Desmond

Feb 15, 2016 5:49 AM

The Chicago White Sox are among the teams considering Ian Desmond, according to a CBS Sports report.

Desmond has lingered on the free agent market longer than expected.

Chicago's first pick (No. 10 overall) in 2016 is protected, meaning they would not have to forfeit that selection for signing Desmond, who rejected a qualifying offer from the Washington Nationals.

Instead, the White Sox would give up their next pick (currently No. 28).

Frank Thomas Returns To White Sox As Special Consultant

Feb 1, 2016 8:06 AM

Frank Thomas is returning to the Chicago White Sox as a special consultant to business operations.

Thomas will work closely with vice president of sales and marketing, Brooks Boyer.

He had previously left his ambassador role in the White Sox when he became a national television analyst for Fox and Fox Sports 1. Thomas will continue to work with Fox, but realized he had the time and passion to rejoin the organization.

"I'm really happy to be back here and to come back with a role to the team that, a place that I spent my entire life it seems like, and to be a help anywhere I possibly can," Thomas said. "It's a good role for me because I'm back and forth still with the TV stuff. So when I'm not in L.A., I'll be here at the ballpark helping out and doing things.

"I'm happy to be back with the team. I always want to be around this team. You guys knew that and I never wanted to leave this place. So many memories, so many years. Just come back now and watch what's going on, my ex-roommate is the manager. It's a good thing."
