The Chicago White Sox have acquired first baseman Yonder Alonso in a trade with the Cleveland Indians, according to multiple reports.
The Indians will get minor league outfielder Alex Call in the deal, which is expected to be finalized Saturday, reports said.
Manny Machado wants to play shortstop, but he may be willing to move back to third base for the "right contract."
That's what Machado's longtime friend and coach Bobby Dickerson told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
"I think if the contract is right, he would [move to third]. It may have to go an extra $5 million, or more, or whatever to get him out of [shortstop]. But if the contract is right, I think he would go to third," Dickerson said.
Machado was drafted as a shortstop before moving to third as a Major League rookie. He moved back to shortstop full-time in 2018.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly inquired with the Chicago White Sox about the availability of Jose Abreu.
Abreu, 31, will be a free agent after next season.
He is up for arbitration this winter after earning $13 million in 2018.
The Seattle Mariners continued their cost-cutting Friday, sending reliever Alex Colome to the Chicago White Sox for catcher Omar Narvaez.
Colome has 96 saves in six seasons with Tampa Bay and Seattle, earned $5.3 million this year and is eligible for salary arbitration. Colome was used as a set-up man by the Mariners and had a 5-0 record and one save with a 2.53 ERA in 47 appearances. .
Narvaez, 26, batted .275 with nine homers and 30 RBIs in 97 games for the White Sox and will make the league minimum in 2019.
