White Sox Trade Quentin To Padres
The White Sox have traded outfielder Carlos Quentin to the Padres for two prospects.
San Diego general manager Josh Byrnes is bringing Quentin back four years after trading him to Chicago as an executive with Arizona.
"It's exciting. First of all with the trade happening this morning, your whole life has been shifted," Quentin said.
"It will take time to set in but it's exciting that it's shifting to San Diego where I grew up. It's definitely a positive to me and I look forward to contributing to the Padres."
The White Sox received minor league pitchers Simon Castro, a right-hander, and Pedro Hernandez, a left-hander.
Danks Agrees To Five-Year Extension
The White Sox and starting pitcher John Danks agreed to terms on a five-year contract extension worth $65 million.
Danks will make $8 million in 2012 and $14.25 per season for the next four years.
ESPN.com's Bruce Levine first reported the deal on Dec. 21.
By agreeing to terms with Danks, the White Sox avoided an arbitration hearing that would have likely cost the team between $9 million and $10 million in 2012.
Yankees Were High On Danks Before Extension
Looking for a starting pitcher this offseason, the Yankees liked Chicago's John Danks better than Gio Gonzalez, who the Athletics traded to the Nationals earlier this month.
The White Sox recently extended Danks, essentially taking him off the trade market.
The Yankees felt Chicago general manager Kenny Williams would eventually lower the price on Danks, but he did not.
White Sox Expected Danks To Draw More Interest
After failing to sign him to a contract extension, the White Sox put John Danks on the trade market.
No move has been made because Chicago didn't receive the interest they expected for the left-hander.
One executive said the White Sox were taken back by the lukewarm interest in Danks.

Buehrle Eventually Wants To Return To Chicago In Some Fashion
Mark Buehrle left the White Sox to sign with the Marlins this offseason, but the left-hander plans to eventually return.
"I think I'll always be a Chicago White Sox no matter what happens from here on out," Buehrle said.
"I kind of told some people, I said, 'It's just a 4-year break. I'll be back before you know it.' Maybe I'll be playing, maybe just bugging people in the clubhouse, just coming through getting fat and drinking a beer, having fun and watching the game as a fan. It's just a 4-year break, and I'll be back before you know it."
At the end of last season Buehrle says he felt there was a "50-50 chance" of re-signing with the White Sox, but as the free agent process evolved he realized it likely wasn't going to happen.
"To be honest, it would have been nice to have a last minute offer from them," Buehrle said of the White Sox.
"But I totally understand their situation. I don't hold any ill will towards them. I don't feel like they owed me to offer me a contract. I just think it was just one of those things where previous moves have been made that caused this to come to an end."
White Sox Want Top Prospects From Yankees For Danks
The Yankees and White Sox have discussed left-hander John Danks and Chicago has asked for two of their top three prospects.
Those players are believed to be Jesus Montero, Manny Banuelos and Dellin Betances.

Buehrle and Guillen spent several years together in Chicago with the White Sox.
