The Detroit Tigers have brought back reliever Jose Valverde, signing him to a one-year contract.

Valverde, who will report to the Major League team on Wednesday, will immediately be the team's closer.

"I'm ready to pitch," Valverde said. "I feel good. The last couple of days I threw in Lakeland, I threw 96 [mph], 97, a couple times 98."

He was Detroit's closer the past three years, but the team was prepared to let him leave as a free agent after he faltered during the 2012 postseason.

The Brewers have brought back reliever Francisco Rodriguez, signing the veteran right-hander to a minor league deal.

The Brewers made the move Wednesday, according to an ESPN.com report. 

The Seattle Mariners have signed right-hander David Aardsma.

The 31-year-old broke the news on Twitter.

It is a minor league contract.

The Los Angeles Angels have signed Brad Hawpe to a minor league deal.

The first baseman/outfielder will report to extended spring training.

The Long Island Ducks have signed former Major League pitcher Dontrelle Willis.

An Independent Atlantic League club, the clubs made headlines this week for signing Vladimir Guerrero.

Willis, 31, enjoyed his greatest success with the Florida Marlins and owns a career major league record of 72-69 with a 4.17 ERA over nine seasons. He last pitched in the majors in 2011 with Cincinnati.

Veteran outfielder Vladimir Guerrero has agreed to join the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League, according to an MLB.com report on Thursday.

Guerrero, 38, last played in the Major Leagues in 2011, when he logged a .290 average with 13 homers and 63 RBIs in 145 contests for the Orioles.

The Rangers formally announced Thursday that they have signed Elvis Andrus to an eight-year contract extension through 2022 with a vesting option for 2023. 

The deal is worth approximately $120M.

"It's a great thing," Andrus said Tuesday as the contract was being finalized.

The Chicago Cubs have signed Ryan Sweeney to a minor league contract.

He was released by the Boston Red Sox as they set their Opening Day lineup.

"I've just been home for the last few days working out," Sweeney said. "They want me to go get some at-bats and hopefully I'll be up pretty quick."
