Dodgers Trade Manuel Margot To Twins, Sign Kike Hernandez

The Los Angeles Dodgers are trading outfielder Manuel Margot to the Minnesota Twins and plan to sign free agent super utility man Kiké Hernández to a one-year contract once the trade is finalized, sources told ESPN.

After shopping Margot in recent days, the Dodgers struck a deal to send the Twins the 29-year-old outfielder and shortstop prospect Rayne Doncon for shortstop prospect Noah Miller.

Veteran baseball broadcaster Jenny Cavnar is the new primary play-by-play announcer for the Oakland Athletics, hired by NBC Sports California.

The company made the announcement Tuesday. Cavnar -- set to be the voice for most A's games during the upcoming 2024 season -- becomes the first woman in major league history to handle primary play-by-play duties.

The Tampa Bay Rays have extended the contracts of manager Kevin Cash and president of baseball operations Erik Neander.

The Rays did not disclose terms when announcing the extensions Thursday, but the Tampa Bay Times reported that Cash and Neander both will be under contract through the Rays' move to a new stadium in 2028.

Jose Altuve signed a five-year extension on Tuesday that all but guarantees he will finish his career with the Houston Astros.

The deal is worth $125 million, sources told ESPN, taking him all the way through his age-39 season.

"He's a franchise-type player; one of the best in Houston history," owner Jim Crane said at the owners meetings in Orlando, Florida. "And we hope someday he's a Hall of Famer."

Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers haver agreed to a new contract.

Kershaw will return for at least his 17th season with the Dodgers but will spend at least the first half of the year recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.

Kershaw was expected to either re-sign with the Dodgers or sign with his hometown Texas Rangers. 

Kershaw finished in the top three of National League Cy Young voting every year from 2011 to 2015, during which he led all MLB starting pitchers in wins (88), ERA (2.11) and WHIP (0.93) while ranking third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.16).
