Indians Sign Matt Capps To Minor-League Deal

The Indians have signed veteran free agent pitcher Matt Capps to a minor-league contract.

Capps' deal includes a non-roster invitation to spring training camp.

The 29-year-old has 138 career saves in 444 appearances for Pittsburgh, Washington and Minnesota, according to an Associated Press report.

Mets Invite LaTroy Hawkins To Spring Training

The Mets continued to add to their bullpen depth Thursday, signing veteran right-handed reliever LaTroy Hawkins to a minor league deal with a spring-training invite, agency Reynolds Sports announced.

Hawkins, 40, went 2-3 with a 3.64 ERA in 48 relief appearances last season with the Angels.

Yankees Sign Juan Rivera

The Yankees have signed Juan Rivera, according to a source.

The contract is a minor league deal that will allow Rivera to compete with Matt Diaz and Russ Canzler to be a right-handed-hitting outfielder for the Yankees.

In 109 games with the Dodgers in 2012, Rivera hit .244 with nine homers and 47 RBIs.

Cubs Sign Villanueva To Two-Year Contract

The Cubs have added Carlos Villanueva to their staff, signing him to a two-year, $10 million contract.

The sides had agreed to the contract in mid-December, pending a physical.

Villanueva spent the past two seasons with Toronto. He went 7-7 with a 4.16 ERA last year in 16 starts and 22 relief appearances.

Baker Signs Minors Deal With Rangers

The Rangers have signed Jeff Baker to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Baker, who is entering his ninth Major League season, had a busy 2012 between three teams: the Cubs, Tigers and Braves.

He hit .239 with four home runs and a .279 on-base percentage in 83 games. He's spent nearly his whole career in the National League, with just 15 games played for the American League -- all in Detroit last year.

He brings 597 career relief appearances and 51 saves into camp. Qualls spent 2012 with the Pirates, throwing 52 1/3 innings in 60 games while posting a 2-1 record with a 5.33 ERA.
