Astros Place George Springer On DL

Sep 18, 2014 7:02 PM

The Houston Astros have placed George Springer on the disabled list with a strained left quadriceps.

Houston originally felt the issue was with the rookie's right leg. Springer said he hurt his right knee and quad when he slammed into the wall after making a catch in Texas on July 9, but the injury to his left quad has been lingering for a couple of weeks and is more of a concern.

"It's just kind of in my best interest now to take some time and to rest and get back out there as soon as I can," Springer said.

He is hitting .231/.336/.468 with 20 home runs and 51 RBIs in 78 games.

Tanaka Still Dealing With Elbow Discomfort

Sep 18, 2014 4:26 PM

Masahiro Tanaka is still feeling discomfort in his pitching elbow despite not having picked up a baseball since receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection 10 days ago, according to Brian Cashman.

"He's improved, but he still feels it, although on a daily basis it decreases," Cashman told ESPN New York 98.7 FM's The Michael Kay Show. "So that's good but it's not good that he's still feeling it at this stage. So it's just day-by-day, week-by-week and we'll adjust accordingly. It's too early to call."

Tanaka was diagnosed with a partially-torn ulnar collateral ligament via MRI after complaining of elbow pain following a start against the Cleveland Indians on July 8.

In his first season as a Major Leaguer, Tanaka is 12-4 with a 2.51 ERA and 135 strikeouts in 129.1 innings.

Ryan Zimmerman Set For MRI On Hamstring

Sep 16, 2014 11:12 PM

Ryan Zimmerman left Tuesday night's game with a strained right hamstring and is scheduled to have an MRI on Wednesday morning.

He left in the sixth inning of the Washington Nationals' eventual win over the Colorado Rockies.

"It's pretty sore tonight. Get the MRI, get some results tomorrow and see where we're at," Matt Williams said. "It's concerning. Anytime you have to leave the game with a hamstring injury, it's concerning."

Zimmerman missed 44 games with a fractured right thumb earlier this season but has played well since coming off the disabled list June 3.

Wacha Could Begin Throwing In Two Weeks

Sep 17, 2014 4:50 AM

Michael Wacha still hasn't been cleared to throw, but he could begin doing so in two weeks.

The St. Louis Cardinals right-hander has a stress reaction in his right scapula, which has healed to the point that he will "ramp up" his pre-throwing program beginning Tuesday.

Wacha underwent both an MRI and CT scan Monday and the results were encouraging.

"This is positive," said John Mozeliak. "This still could put him (pitching for the Cardinals) in early September."

Shane Victorino Back In Red Sox' Lineup

Oct 31, 2014 2:15 PM

Prior to Saturday night's game against the Royals, the Red Sox will activate Shane Victorino off the disabled list. Victorino is in the starting lineup, batting sixth and playing in right field.

"This is what it's all about. Work hard. You try to do what you got to do to get back as quick as you can," Victorino said. "Unfortunately there were some setbacks. I'm here. I'm at this point where I worked hard to get to where I'm at. As I said I'm going to continue to work hard to be the best player I can be. Go out there and do what I can to make this team better. But I'm not the guy. I'm not the answer. I'm not the guy that's going to go out there and carry the load."

Rookie Mookie Betts will be optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for Victorino on the roster.
