Pineda Pulls Himself From Simulated Game

Dec 17, 2014 12:31 PM

Michael Pineda, who is currently serving a 10-game suspension for using pine tar in a game against the Boston Red Sox, pulled himself from a simulated game on Tuesday because of back soreness.

Pineda, who pitched only one inning in Tampa, felt soreness in a back muscle on his right side.

Tests revealed that he has a Grade 1 strain of the teres major muscle in his back. Pineda probably won't pitch for three to four weeks.

The right-hander is 2-2 with a 1.83 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 15 strikeouts in 19.2 innings this season.

Machado Set To Return For Orioles

Oct 31, 2014 3:00 PM

Manny Machado has left his rehab assignment with Class-A Frederick to join the Baltimore Orioles.

The Orioles are slated to host the Pittsburgh Pirates for the first of a two-game series, although there's rain in the forecast all day and night.

Machado played for Frederick over the weekend. He has been rehabbing back from offseason left knee surgery after a season-ending injury suffered in late September, and he was brought along slowly this spring before a setback while running the bases slowed his timetable.

Harper To Have Thumb Surgery, Out At Least Two Months

May 11, 2014 7:22 AM

Bryce Harper will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb and is expected to be out until at least early July, according to sources.

The 21-year-old injured his hand during a head-first slide into third on a bases-clearing triple in Friday's game against the San Diego Padres.

"I slid into the bag and I caught it a little bit," Harper said. "Went into the dugout, swung a couple in the cage, felt fine. Went out to the outfield, it swelled up a little bit. ... So I got in and got some treatment on it."

Harper is hitting .289/.352/.422 with one home run and 9 RBIs.

Oct 31, 2014 6:14 AM

Doug Fister made his first rehab start with Class A Potomac on Sunday and said he "felt strong" after allowing six hits over four innings.

Fister has been on the disabled list all season. He dealt with elbow inflammation in early spring, and suffered a lat strain near the end of spring training.

"No discomfort," he said. "No anything. Felt loose where I needed it to be."

He's expected to make his next, and final, rehab start on Friday with Double-A Harrisburg.
