Braun: Thumb Is Fully Healed

Nov 27, 2014 1:51 AM

Ryan Braun says his right thumb is 100 percent for the first time in two years.

"Right now, I don't feel any [discomfort], and I haven't been able to say that for two years," Braun said. "I think I've told you guys, it [bothered me] shaking hands, writing -- you know, just everyday activities. Now I don't feel it at all, so I'm excited."

Braun said he's been cleared for offseason activities, and even swung a bat 10 days after the surgery.

"I'm encouraged by how it feels, but at the same time, I think I have to be cautiously optimistic [until] I get into spring training and see how it responds," Braun said. "But it hasn't felt this good in a really long time."

Mets Will Place Soft-Cap On Harvey's Innings

Nov 19, 2014 9:06 AM

According to Sandy Alderson, Matt Harvey's in-season innings will be managed in order to keep him available to pitch deep into October without reaching an innings cap.

Harvey had Tommy John surgery on Oct. 22, 2013.

The New York Mets have formulated the plan with an eye on how the Washington Nationals handled Stephen Strasburg in 2012. Washington shut the right-hander down in early September as the playoffs approached.
