Cardinals' Lohse Could Miss Another Start

Oct 5, 2014 7:32 PM

Cardinals pitcher Kyle Lohse could miss another start because of a sore arm. St. Louis pitching coach Dave Duncan said after a bullpen session on Friday that Lohse is "about 75 percent." Duncan added that there is "a 90 percent chance" that he'll miss his scheduled start against the Reds on Tuesday. Lohse continues to suffer from stiffness in the area where he was struck by a pitch against the Royals on May 23. "It's become frustrating because it's not getting better," he said.

Mets pitcher Oliver Perez suffered a setback during his rehab assignment at Triple-A Buffalo and won't make his scheduled start Sunday. An MRI revealed patellar tendinitis in Perez's right knee, according to MLB.com. New York plans to send the pitcher to Florida on Sunday. "All that stems from the knee," manager Jerry Manuel said. "He can't be consistent with his fundamentals."

Pettitte Questionable For Next Turn

Oct 11, 2014 8:59 AM

Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte left Friday's win over the Indians early with back stiffness and his status is in question. Pettitte revealed that he thought he strained his back while working out between starts, which forced him to miss his usual bullpen session between games. "I guess it's a little bit of old age," Pettitte said. "That's all I can tell you. I literally wasn't doing anything. I felt great working out, I lifted my legs and it was just one of those freak accidents." Pettitte said that the Yankees were aware of the injury. He bent over with stiffness in the fourth inning on Friday night, and stayed on the mound to record six more outs before leaving the game. "We've got to try to knock this out," manager Joe Girardi said. "Hopefully it doesn't linger, because the longer it lingers, the less work [Pettitte] can do and be prepared for his next start."

Myers Opts For Surgery, Will Miss 3 Months

Oct 17, 2014 8:36 AM

Phillies starting pitcher Brett Myers will have hip surgery soon, and will miss at least three months of action. He considered pitching through the pain this season, but the procedure will prevent further injury. "This is the best option for me," Myers told The Inquirer. "If you [pitch through the injury], the chances of hurting your arm are greater. Ultimately, I could hurt my arm and need two surgeries." Myers admitted that a return later this season is a "longshot," and he could be done with the Phillies as he will be a free agent this winter.

Diamondbacks ace Brandon Webb expects to return to the mound before the All-Star break in July. "You can't just start going into games right away," he said. "You've got to build your arm up." Webb played catch from 115 feet Tuesday, and called it his best throwing session yet. He has only pitched once this season, on Opening Day.

Delgado Doesn't Know When He'll Return

Jul 20, 2014 4:46 PM

Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado can't guarantee when he'll be healthy enough to return to the field. "I can't guarantee nothing," Delgado said at a fundraiser on Thursday night. "The most important thing is get better, get healthy so you can perform effectively. I think it's going to happen some time this year, but I can't guarantee nothing. I can't do that." Delgado underwent surgery last week to repair an impingement in his right hip, bone spur and torn labrum. "All I'm going to do is try to get healthy and try to be back. Then after that I'll deal with whatever else I have to deal with," he said in reference to whether or not the Mets will find someone to replace him in the meantime.

Hip Surgery Likely For Phils' Meyers

Oct 16, 2014 3:43 PM

Phillies pitcher Brett Myers is headed towards hip surgery, which would shelve him for 3-to-4 months. Myers hopes that he would be able to return for the postseason, if Philadelphia qualifies, after having the torn labrum fixed. The injury is similar to what second baseman Chase Utley went through at the end of last season. "It's like Chase's," agent Craig Landis said. "Brett said it's probably a little worse, but they are saying 3 to 4 months, probably 4 months, but Brett is pretty tough, a pretty quick healer. It'll be toward the end [of the season] if at all. If he had surgery, his new goal will be to get it right away and try to get back for September and certainly October."
