Surgery Will End Wang's Season

Oct 16, 2014 6:28 AM

Yankees pitcher Chien-Ming Wang will undergo season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his injured right shoulder Wednesday. New York made the announcement after their loss to Tampa Bay on Tuesday night. Manager Joe Girardi said that there is no timetable for Wang's return next season and that the club will know more after the surgery is complete. "It's a tough loss for us," Girardi told the Associated Press. "I feel for him. He's been through a lot the last 14, 15 months. Hopefully this is will be the end of the surgeries for him and he'll have the rest of his career be real healthy. We'll be there for him and we'll help him get through this. We'll get him back pitching as soon as we can."

Yankees Lose Gardner To Broken Thumb

Sep 19, 2014 8:14 PM

The Yankees have lost their fastest player after placing outfielder Brett Gardner on the disabled list with a broken thumb. Gardner got hurt sliding into second base on Saturday against the Athletics. "We still have four outfielders for three spots where we can spell guys. But Gardy was a part of our club and we're going to be without him for a few weeks," manager Joe Girardi said. "It's possible we could miss him a lot. You can't predict the kind of games you're going to get in." Gardner remained in the game on Saturday, hitting an RBI triple and making a pair of diving catches with the broken finger.

Wang May Be Done For Season

Nov 24, 2014 10:18 PM

It appears more and more likely that Chien-Ming Wang could be done for the season with a shoulder injury. "I thought the best-case scenario would be Sept. 1," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Friday night. "I'm not sure if that's possible now with the little setback." Wang has been sidelined since July 4 with soreness in his shoulder, and may be headed to Alabama on Monday for a meeting with renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews.

Wang Suffers Setback During Session

May 25, 2014 12:18 AM

Chien-Ming Wang has suffered a setback in his recovery from a strained right shoulder. It is unlikely that he will return to the Yankees anytime soon after the news became public on Monday. Wang said his biceps felt tender when he played catch prior to New York's game against Baltimore. "It's not exactly the news that I wanted," manager Joe Girardi said. "It's not what you want to hear because we were hoping that two weeks' rest is enough for him to get on a throwing program." Wang, who hasn't appeared in a game since July 4, won't attempt to throw again until Friday. "We're going to give him a few more days and some more strengthening before he goes back out," Girardi said. "I think anytime you're dealing with cuff issues or shoulder tendinitis or whatever you want to describe it as, I mean, there's concern. And whatever he's able to do, we would love to have. But I think any time someone is injured and you're not sure when they're exactly going to be back, you can't really count on them in a sense."

Padres second baseman Edgar Gonzalez remained hospitalized Sunday night after he was hit in the head with a pitch on Saturday. Gonzalez didn't suffer any skull fractures or a concussion, but was complaining of dizziness and ringing in his ears. "They might do the same tests again, sort of a follow up just to make sure," San Diego manager Bud Black said. "There's a lot of good signs." His return is uncertain at this point, and he doesn't have 100 percent of his hearing back.
