Terry Ryan says the Minnesota Twins have no problem "blocking" other teams from acquiring players via waiver trade.

Ryan would have done so if the Twins were in contention and he was surprised that Marlon Byrd was able to get to the Pittsburgh Pirates on waivers given his affordable salary.

The Boston Red Sox have acquired John McDonald from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for minor league pitcher Nefi Ogando.

McDonald is hitting .111/.186/.185 in just 60 plates appearances with the Phillies, Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Pirates this season.
