The Philadelphia Phillies have claimed right-hander Max Castillo off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.

Castillo, 24, was 0-1 with a 4.43 ERA in 20 1/3 innings over seven relief appearances with the Kansas City Royals last season. The Red Sox had claimed him from the Royals on Jan. 2.

The Seattle Mariners have claimed outfielder Canaan Smith-Njigba off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Canaan is the brother of Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

In 105 games at Triple-A Indianapolis, the outfielder hit .280 with 28 doubles, 15 home runs and 74 RBIs.

Smith-Njigba was originally a fourth-round pick in the 2017 amateur draft by the New York Yankees. 

The Minnesota Twins claimed right-hander Daniel Duarte off waivers Friday from the Texas Rangers, who had acquired the reliever last month in a cash trade with the Cincinnati Reds.
