The Arizona Diamondbacks released veteran first baseman Tony Clark. Clark, 37 and in his 15th season in the majors, was hitting just .182 with four home runs in 66 at-bats. Presumably, the move was made with the intention of bringing first baseman Josh Whitesell back from Triple-A Reno and giving him a chance to play regularly.

The Astros have claimed catcher Chris Coste off waivers from the Phillies. Coste, 36, will join Houston on Saturday. He made 98 starts for the Phillies last year, hitting .263 with nine homers and 36 RBIs.
