Clayton Kershaw Headed For Rehab Assignment

Aug 31, 2016 7:50 AM

Clayton Kershaw threw two simulated innings on Tuesday, but the Los Angeles Dodgers expect him to require a rehab assignment before he can be activated from the disabled list.

"My guess is that Kersh will want to pitch in a Major League game tomorrow," Andrew Friedman said. "With the time he's missed, my guess would be the next step would be a Minor League assignment. I think it will take a little bit of time to build him up in a way for him to be strong through September and hopefully October, as well."

Kershaw has not pitched for the team since June 26 because of a herniated disk in his lower back.

The Dodgers entered Wednesday with a two-game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the National League West.

Hisashi Iwakuma's 2017 Option Likely To Vest

Aug 31, 2016 7:51 AM

Hisashi Iwakuma surpassed 162 innings last week, meaning he crossed the minimum innings threshold for his 2017 club option to vest at $14 million.

However, Iwakuma's contract also stipulates that he must finish the season without incurring a specific injury. While it seems likely the option will vest, his 2017 salary isn't yet guaranteed.

Iwakuma signed a one-year, $12 million deal with the Seattle Mariners (including a pair of vesting options) after a three-year, $45 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers broke down over health concerns.

Yasiel Puig: Minors Humbling, 'Difficult' To See Dodgers In First

Aug 31, 2016 7:51 AM

Yasiel Puig would have preferred a trade rather than a stint in the Minor Leagues, but he says he has already been humbled by his time with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Puig on revocable waivers over the weekend.

"Watching the Dodgers being in first place, it's very difficult," Puig said. "The moment I arrived in L.A., people were crazy for me -- 50-60 thousand people [cheering] at the stadium. I got used to that amount of fans. Getting to Triple-A and not seeing as many fans is not very appealing or fun to play baseball, but this is what I have to do for my future."

Puig has been in the Minor Leagues for three weeks and he has a .375 average.

"[Playing in the minors] is something that has taught me humility, and I am very grateful," he said. "I do not know what the future will hold in the next few hours. I don't know where I will go. I don't know my fate. God only knows my destiny, and I am here to fulfill it. He gave me many opportunities, the way [the Dodgers] did, and I put myself in this situation."

Alex Rodriguez was the first, and previously only, player to accomplish the feat.

The Los Angeles Angels have struggled this season, but Trout is hitting .316/.434/.556 with 25 home runs, 84 RBI, 21 stolen bases and now 100 runs scored.
