A-Rod's Meeting With MLB On Hold?

Sep 8, 2014 2:52 AM

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez believes that he will face the Reds in a spring game on Sunday, which might mean he'll miss a reported meeting with Major League Baseball. "I should be, unless I hear otherwise," Rodriguez said. "I'm on the road trip -- 9 o'clock bus." Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that Rodriguez is looking to push the date of the meeting back.

Did Boras Ask Dodgers For Deferred Money?

Sep 30, 2014 10:14 PM

A source with knowledge of the situation claims that it was agent Scott Boras, not the Dodgers, who requested as far back as last fall that some of Manny Ramirez's money be deferred so the total value of a proposed contract could be greater. This week, Boras and Ramirez complained about not wanting a majority of his money deferred in a contract offer.

Beltre Not Allowed To Play In WBC

Oct 6, 2014 5:35 AM

The Mariners have told third baseman Adrian Beltre that he cannot play for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic. The team doesn't believe that he has fully recovered from surgeries in September to repair a ligament in his left thumb and to remove bone spurs from his left, non-throwing shoulder. "Yes, we took the decision [away]," Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said. "We need this player, and we need this player badly, to be competitive this year. "I feel bad about it. I know how badly he wanted to play. As I said all along, I would support him -- as long as he was healthy. ... If he's not right at 100 percent, then we as an organization couldn't afford to have a setback."

Sore Shoulder Forces Posada Out Of Lineup

Yankees catcher Jorge Posada was forced out of the starting lineup on Saturday after feeling soreness in his surgically repaired right shoulder. Both Posada and manager Joe Girardi called the move precautionary. "It's a little bump in the road," said Posada. "I'm not concerned about it. It's going to be fine." Posada will not throw for at least two days after feeling the unusual soreness on Saturday morning.

Curt Schilling said on Saturday that he'd like to pitch for the Cubs, or a team that has never won a World Series title. "Absolutely I'll come back," said Schilling, who has helped lead the Diamondbacks to their first title and the Red Sox to their first in 86 years. "The challenge would be in a place like Tampa Bay or Chicago," he continued. He added that he'll make a decision within a couple of weeks.

Mets Hold Santana Out Of Another Start

Sep 26, 2014 8:28 PM

Johan Santana has been scratched from a second straight start by the Mets because of soreness in his left elbow. He missed an appearance on Friday, and the team says that he won't pitch on Tuesday when his turn comes up once again. "There's no hurry with Johan in spring training if he's experiencing any discomfort," manager Jerry Manuel said. Santana believes that he's been overdoing it in camp. "I've been throwing bullpens here every other day, and I don't think I've ever done that in the past," Santana said Thursday. "The reason why is because we wanted to test my knee and make sure everything is fine, throwing every other day off the mound."

The Dodgers had reportedly set as deadline of Friday afternoon for their negotiations with free agent Manny Ramirez, but the sides are still far apart. Multiple sources within the organization are beginning to wonder whether owner Frank McCourt's feeling towards agent Scott Boras will begin to sour negotiations. Boras and McCourt are reportedly close on the amount of a proposed contract, but are disagreeing on the amount of deferred money in the deal.
