Boston Also Gets Fields In Bedard Deal
The Red Sox also acquired Josh Fields in the three-team trade that landed them left-hander Erik Bedard.
In the first part of the deal, Boston got Trayvon Robinson from the Dodgers for Tim Federowicz, Juan Rodriguez and Stephen Fife.
The Red Sox then flipped Robinson and Chih-Hsien Chiang to Seattle for Bedard and Fields.
Red Sox Land Bedard In Three-Team Deal
The Red Sox have reportedly acquired left-hander Erik Bedard from the Mariners in a three-team deal.
According to Jayson Stark of ESPN.com, the Dodgers were the third party.
Tigers Trade For Fister, Pauley
The Mariners have shipped right-handed starter Doug Fister and righty reliever David Pauley to the Tigers for outfielder Casper Wells, infielder Francisco Martinez, left-hander Charlie Furbush and a player to be named later.
"The acquisition cost for a starting pitcher is very high right now, as you can see from the trades being made around the majors. There were times where I didn't think we would get a trade made," Detroit general manager Dave Dombrowski said.
"Seattle was looking for some offensive help, and they liked Casper Wells a great deal, and they also liked Charlie Furbush, so those were names that were in this early on. We've probably talked 25 times in the last week."
D-Backs Acquire Langerhans From Mariners
The Diamondbacks have acquired Ryan Langerhans in a trade with the Mariners.
Seattle will receive cash considerations.
The move clears a roster spot for Wily Mo Pena at Triple-A Tacoma.
Langerhans will report to Arizona's Triple-A affiliate.
Red Sox Eye Erik Bedard
The Red Sox are showing interest in left-hander Erik Bedard, according to a source.
Privately, Boston is worried about the back issues of Clay Buchholz.
Bedard is scheduled to pitch Friday night in Seattle against the Rays, his first start since June 27. The day after that start he was placed on the DL with a sprained left knee.
If the Red Sox believe Bedard is healthy, they'll make an offer for him this weekend.
M's End 17-Game Skid
The Mariners snapped their 17-game losing streak with a 9-2 victory over the Yankees on Wednesday, boosted by a season-high 17-hit attack that featured strong performances by Ichiro Suzuki and Dustin Ackley, according to an ESPN.com report.
GM: Seattle Won't Trade Hernandez
Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik says he will not trade reigning American League Cy Young winner Feliz Hernandez.
"You can say nine guys," Zduriencik said when asked about a potential package for the right-hander.
"You could say 12 guys. What does it matter? The deal is we have a guy who we relish. We want to get to a point where we are competitive and as good as any club in baseball. To get to that point, you have to have top-of-the-rotation starters. We've got it. Your best asset, you ought to keep, and that is what we intend to do."
Seattle has lost 17 straight games following their loss to the Yankees in New York on Tuesday night.
"I don't have (any) intention of trading Felix," Zduriencik said. "I've been saying it all along that what you have is a Cy Young Award winner who is 25 years old on your staff for a long period of time.
"Every club in baseball gets to the level -- the Yankees, the Red Sox, whoever it might be -- they have to have a one-two-three starters. In this particular case, we have a guy who is very, very special. He is signed to a contract and he is part of our organization. Now, we have a guy right behind him in (Michael) Pineda, and we have some really nice pieces right around the corner. It has a chance to be really good in the near future. Our guys, who we have pitched right now have pitched very well. The one thing we have had is we have had good pitching."
Mariners Unlikely To Deal King Felix
Seattle is not expected to trade right-hander Felix Hernandez prior to the July 31 non-waiver deadline, much to the dismay of the Yankees.
Hernandez, 25, is already one of the best pitchers in baseball and remains under contract for three more years.
"No," he said Monday night when asked about the possibility of being traded.
Tigers, Red Sox Scouting Bedard
Many teams will be interested when Erik Bedard returns to the mound for the Mariners this week.
According to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated, the Tigers and Red Sox are among the clubs keeping an eye on the left-hander.
Mariners Only Consider Three Players Untouchable?
With the Mariners mired in a losing streak and possessing baseball's worst offense, they could make some moves prior to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.
Many rival executives believe that only three players on Seattle's roster are untouchable: starters Felix Hernandez and Michael Pineda and rookie Dustin Ackley.
Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik will listen to offers for impending free agents like Jack Wilson, Adam Kennedy, and Jamey Wright.
He'll likely also consider dealing closer Brandon League, left-handed starter Jason Vargas and right-handed starter Doug Fister.
Reds Target Wandy Rodriguez, Leadoff Hitter
The Reds would love to acquire Houston's Wandy Rodriguez and either Chone Figgins or Coco Crisp to hit leadoff.
