Dec 10, 2020 1:19 PM

Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto is close to making his first foray into free agency this offseason, as a source indicated on Wednesday that Seattle has an agreement on a two-year Major League deal with former Mets right-hander Chris Flexen.

The Mariners have not confirmed the deal, which is pending the completion of a physical. The New York Post reported that Flexen will earn $4.75 million over the two seasons.

The 26-year-old spent last season in Korea, where he posted an 8-4 record and a 3.01 ERA in 21 starts for the Doosan Bears. Prior to that, he’d gone 3-11 with an 8.07 ERA in 27 appearances -- including 11 starts -- over three years with the Mets.

Flexen was drafted out of high school, attending Newark Memorial High School, Newark, California.
