No Hitter Saw More Pitches Than Votto In 2013

Joey Votto saw 3,033 pitches this past season, the most of any Major League hitter.

Mike Trout was second, seeing 18 fewer than Votto.

Votto had 73 RBIs in 2013, leading many to suggest he should become more aggressive at the plate.

The Colorado Rockies acquired Drew Stubbs from the Cleveland Indians earlier this month, a move the outfielder felt was possible.

"This whole offseason, I thought there was a decent chance I would be moved," Stubbs said. "When they traded Dexter Fowler, I thought there was a chance. I thought Colorado would be a place that would suit my game very well."

Free-agent outfielder Shin-Soo Choo has reached agreement on a seven-year, $130M deal with the Rangers, two baseball sources confirmed to ESPN.com.

Choo was one of the top leadoff hitters in the majors for the Reds in 2013 with a .423 on-base percentage, a .285 batting average, 21 homers, 54 RBIs, 20 steals and 107 runs scored.

Family Says Ryan Freel Had CTE

Ryan Freel, a former MLB player who committed suicide last year, was suffering from the degenerative brain disease CTE, his family said Sunday, according to The Florida Times-Union. 

The Institute issued its findings Wednesday to Freel's family at baseball's winter meetings in Florida, the report said.

Yankees Have No Intentions Of Trading Gardner

The Yankees have "absolutely no intention" of trading Brett Gardner to clear room in center field for Jacoby Elsbury or to fill a need elsewhere, according to team president Randy Levine.

Appearing Sunday morning on ESPN Radio's "The Ian O'Connor Show," Levine declined to comment on reports the Yankees rejected a Gardner-for-Brandon Phillips trade offer from the Reds but did say he fully expected Gardner to be in the Opening Day lineup.

"We think he's going to be on the roster," Levine said.
