Michael Bourn Breaks Finger Catching Football

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Michael Bourn is expected to miss four weeks after he suffered a broken finger while catching a football, manager Buck Showalter said Saturday.

The 34-year-old Bourn, who was signed to a minor league deal Monday, was injured after Friday's workout. His status for Opening Day is unsure.

Michael Bourn has agreed to a Minor League deal with the Baltimore Orioles that includes an invite to Spring Training.

"His all-around play helped the club earn a 2016 playoff spot," Dan Duquette said. "The O's are glad to have him back."

Bourn will earn $2 million if he makes the Major League roster, according to a source.

The Baltimore Orioles and Chris Tillman have kept the lines of communication open on a contract extension, but talks haven't gotten serious.

Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports writes that, "it's time to get serious if they truly want to bring him back."

Tillman, 28, pitched 172 innings in 2016, posting a 3.77 ERA, 140 strikeouts, 1.285 WHIP and 4.23 FIP.

The Baltimore Orioles have signed Chris Johnson to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training.

Johnson, 32, spent last season with the Miami Marlins after joining the club to be a platoon partner for left-handed-hitting first baseman Justin Bour.

The Baltimore Orioles and Kevin Gausman have agreed to a deal to avoid arbitration.

Gausman will earn $3.45 million in 2017, up from the midpoint of $3.35 million.

The 26-year-old is coming off his best season since his 2012 debut, having amassed 30 starts and registered a 3.61 ERA, 8.72 K/9, 2.35 BB/9 and 44.1 percent ground-ball rate across 179 2/3 innings.

Caleb Joseph Loses Arbitration Case Against Orioles

Caleb Joseph lost his salary arbitration case against the Baltimore Orioles after setting Major League records for at-bats and plate appearances in a season with no RBIs.

The Orioles have won nine-straight cases over more than two decades.

Joseph was awarded the team's $700,000 offer rather than his $1 million request.

He made $523,500 last year and was eligible for arbitration for the first time.
