The Baltimore Orioles have released Michael Bourn and Chris Johnson, per a team release.

Bourn used his opt-out clause with the club as they failed to place him on the 40-man roster. He missed most of the spring with a broken finger, which made it difficult for him to make the Opening Day roster.

Johnson had a solid spring, slashing .269/.310/.493, but that wasn't enough to earn a spot on the Major League roster.

The Baltimore Orioles will have a new starter for their April 3 opener for the first time in the last four years.

Manager Buck Showalter said Monday that right-hander Kevin Gausman will start against Toronto.

Orioles closer Zach Britton says he never felt Buck Showalter needed to talk to him about why he didn't pitch in the American League wild-card game, "or explain it to me or justify his reasons."
