Rays Sign Ernesto Frieri

The Tampa Bay Rays have signed Ernesto Frieri to a one-year, $800,000 contract.

Frieri, 29, was 1-4 with a 7.34 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 41 2-3 innings over 48 games this year for the Los Angeles Angels and Pittsburgh.

He can earn $1.1 million in performance bonuses for games: $50,000 for 30, $100,000 for 35, $150,000 each for 40 and 45, $200,000 apiece for 50 and 55 and $250,000 for 60.

Frieri also can make $1.25 million based on games finished: $150,000 for 30, $200,000 for 35, $250,000 for 40, $300,000 for 45 and $350,000 for 50.

Red Sox Finalize Deal With Sandoval

The Boston Red Sox have finalized their contract agreement with Pablo Sandoval.

Sandoval's five-year deal is worth $95 million and includes a sixth-year club option worth $17 million, with a $5 million buyout, according to a source.

Sandoval is scheduled to be introduced Tuesday at a news conference at Fenway Park.

Rangers To Sign Ross Wolf

The 32-year-old had been a reliever for most of his professional career, but has functioned in a swingman role over the last several seasons.

Mets Sign Cuddyer To Two-Year Deal

The New York Mets have signed Michael Cuddyer to a two-year contract.

Cuddyer, 35, will earn $21 million in the deal -- $8.5 million in 2015 and $12.5 million in 2016, according to a source.

The Colorado Rockies had issued Cuddyer a qualifying offer, meaning New York will have a surrender a draft pick for signing the slugger.

"Michael is a tremendous addition to the middle of our lineup," Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said in a statement. "He is a proven offensive threat who also brings versatility in the field with the ability to play multiple positions."

Brad Fischer Joins Pirates' Coaching Staff

The Pirates today announced that Brad Fischer has joined the Major League coaching staff.  In addition, outfield-baserunning coach Rick Sofield has moved from coaching first base to third base and Nick Leyva, who serves as the club’s infield coach, will move from the third base coaching box to first base. The announcement was made by Pirates Senior Vice President, GM Neal Huntington along with Manager Clint Hurdle.  

Prior to being promoted to Hurdle’s coaching staff, Fischer spent each of the last three years as Pittsburgh’s Minor League Field Coordinator after serving the organization as an Advisor to Player Development in 2011. The 58-year-old Fischer returned to the Pirates organization in 2011 after serving as Milwaukee’s third base coach from 2009-2010.
