Manny Ramirez is coming back to baseball, as a player-coach for the Cubs' Triple-A team, according to an ESPN.com report.

Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein announced in a statement Sunday that Ramirez "is not and will not" be on the Cubs' major-league roster, stating that the once-feared slugger will serve as a mentor to Chicago's minor-league hitters in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Boston Red Sox have signed Stephen Drew to a one-year contract.

The infielder played and won the World Series with Boston last season, but refused a qualifying offer from the team in order to test the free-agent market.

The Miami Marlins have signed Miguel Tejada to a Minor League deal.

Tejada, who will turn 40 later this month, is a career .285/.336/.456 hitter over 9,205 plate appearances.

The Astros have signed veteran reliever Kyle Farnsworth to a major-league deal, according to an ESPN.com report on Saturday.

The Mets dropped Farnsworth from their major league roster earlier this week, just days ahead of a deadline in which his $1M salary would have become guaranteed. They instead were only responsible for a quarter of that amount.

Farnsworth, 38, went 0-3 with a 3.18 ERA and three saves in 19 appearances with the Mets this season.

The San Diego Padres have signed 27-year-old Odrisamer Despaigne to a minor league contract.

He receives a $1 million signing bonus in the deal.

The Cuban right-hander played professionally for the Havana Industriales of Cuba's Serie Nacional for eight seasons, going 61-43 with a 3.55 ERA. He had 684 strikeouts and 390 walks in 213 games.
