Mike Trout says he had no problem giving up a few years of free-agent freedom in exchange for lifelong financial security and a chance to win championships with the Angels, according to an ESPN.com report.

Owner Arte Moreno would have liked to lock up baseball's best young player for even longer, and says he met Trout in the middle on a record-setting contract.

Trout formalized his six-year, $144.5 million deal on Saturday, committing himself to the Angels through 2020.

The 22-year-old outfielder says it was "hard to turn down" the big numbers offered by the Angels.

The Angels reached an agreement Friday night with outfielder Mike Trout on a a six-year contract that runs through 2020.

Financial terms were not released by the Angels, but sources told ESPN.com the deal with the two-time All-Star outfielder is worth $144.5 million.

The Atlanta Braves signed Aaron Harang to a one-year deal just hours after parting ways with Freddy Garcia.

"Our reports on him in September and this spring have been very good," Frank Wren said. "We just felt he was a good fit for us."

The Braves have a number of injuries to their starting rotation, creating a need for veteran depth.

Atlanta plans to feature a four-man rotation until Ervin Santana, who was signed this month, is deemed ready to pitch in a regular-season game.

The New York Mets will re-sign Kyle Farnsworth this week.

The deal will reportedly be completed on Tuesday.

The maneuver seems to be a way for New York to avoid paying Farnsworth a $100,000 retention bonus.

Ron Roenicke has a contract to manage the Brewers through next year after the club exercised its option for 2015, according to an ESPN.com report on Saturday.

The Cardinals signed Cuban free agent shortstop Aledmys Diaz to a major league contract and he'll report to spring training on Monday, according to an ESPN.com report.

The Cardinals were among a number of teams, including the Yankees, who held private workouts for Diaz and the deal is believed to be for $15-20M for four years.

Cardinals leadoff hitter Matt Carpenter has signed a six-year contract extension worth $52 million, according to multiple media reports. 

The Cardinals have not confirmed the deal but have scheduled a news conference for 11 a.m. ET on Saturday morning from their spring training facility.

The Baltimore Orioles have officially signed Johan Santana to a Minor League contract.

Santana will receive a one-year, $3 million contract if he makes the Major League roster.

The left-hander can earn a total of $5.05 million in incentives, according to a source.

The Washington Nationals have signed Mike Gonzalez to a Minor League contract.

The deal includes an invitation to Spring Training.

Gonzalez pitched for the Nationals during the 2012 season, posting a 3.03 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 35.2 innings of work. He was with the Milwaukee Brewers last season.
