The Los Angeles Angels reached an agreement on a contract with first-round pick Sean Newcomb hours before Friday's deadline.

Newcomb, the 15th overall selection last month, signed for $2,518,400, more than the recommended $2,475,600 for his slot.

Newcomb, who was a junior at the University of Hartford, went 8-2 with a 1.25 ERA -- the seventh-best ERA in the NCAA -- in 14 starts as batters hit just .162 against him.

Rich Hill has signed a Minor League deal with the New York Yankees and been assigned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Hill, 34, made one appearance this season, with the Los Angeles Angels, but he allowed three walks and a hit without retiring a batter.

The Chicago White Sox have signed Chien-Ming Wang to a Minor League contract.

He has been assigned to the Triple-A Charlotte Knights.

Wang, 34, was 8-5 with a 3.70 ERA in 19 games this season for Triple-A Louisville (Cincinnati Reds).

The San Francisco Giants have agreed to terms on a contract with second-round pick Aramis Garcia.

Garcia will receive a $1.1 million signing bonus, which is slightly above the slot value for the No. 52 overall selection.

The catcher hit .368/.442/.626 with eight homers, 14 doubles and two triples as a Junior at FIU.

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a contract with Carlos Rodon, the third overall pick in last month's Major League Baseball draft.

Rodon's bonus will be worth more than $6.45 million. The slot value for the No. 3 pick is $5.72 million.

The left-hander was reportedly traveling to Chicago on Wednesday to make the deal official.

The New York Yankees got off to a fast start when the international signing period opened on Wednesday.

The Yankees signed Dominican third baseman Nelson Gomez for $2.25 million, along with Venezuelan shortstops Wilkerman Garcia for $1.35 million and Diego Castillo for $750,000, according to sources.

New York is also the favorite to sign several other highly-regarded prospects.

Gomez is ranked No. 2 on MLB.com's Top International Prospects list, while Garcia and Castillo rank 14th and 16th, respectively.

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed first-round picks Jeff Hoffman and Max Pentecost.

Hoffman was the ninth overall pick, while Pentecost was taken eleventh.

Both of the players will receive bonuses in line with the slot suggestion for their draft position.

The San Diego Padres have signed Seth Smith to a two-year contract extension that includes a club option for 2017.

Smith will earn $13 million in the first two years of the deal, according to a source. The team option is worth $7 million.

The agreement appears to take a suspected trade candidate off the market and comes at a strange time with no general manager in San Diego.
