Kris Bryant To Have MRI On Right Ankle

Apr 29, 2016 8:11 AM

Kris Bryant will have a precautionary MRI on his right ankle after he rolled it as he rounded the bases on Thursday as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Cubs labeled the injury as a mild sprain.

"I don't know," Joe Maddon said when asked if Bryant will miss time. "I honestly don't know. You saw him jog off the field. I don't want to create conjecture. Let's see what happens with the test."

Bryant, 24, is hitting .289/.372/.506 with four home runs and 15 RBI this season.

C.J. Wilson Targeting Mid-June Return To Angels

Apr 28, 2016 8:24 AM

C.J. Wilson hopes to return to the starting rotation of the Los Angeles Angels by mid-June.

Wilson has been dealing with shoulder tendinitis since the start of spring training. He is scheduled for a May 9 bullpen session, which would be his first time on a mound since starting his current throwing program.

His first Minor League game would then be May 23, pitching every fifth day thereafter.

"It feels like it's taking forever," Wilson said. "I want to pitch. I always want to pitch. When you have a light at the end of the tunnel, it feels a little longer as opposed to 'I'm not going to pitch till next year.'"

Apr 22, 2016 8:44 AM

Tyson Ross won't require surgery on his injured right shoulder, but he also isn't likely to make a Major League appearance in the near future.

Ross made one start before landing on the disabled list retroactive to April 5. He underwent an MRI.

"The good news was [it's] non-surgical," Andy Green said. "We'll take a couple more weeks, re-evaluate, see where he is. Hopefully he's back on the mound quick for us."

Xander Bogaerts Leaves Game With Tight Left Quad

Apr 21, 2016 8:11 AM

Xander Bogaerts left Wednesday night's 7-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays with tightness in his left quadricep.

Bogaerts, who was pulled after going 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI single, is considered day-to-day.

John Farrell said the decision to pull Bogaerts from the lineup was "precautionary," and Bogaerts sounded optimistic that he'll be back in the lineup Thursday.

"If I feel the same way I feel right now, I probably will [play]," Bogaerts said. "I'll definitely be ready to go if I wake up feeling the same way I do right now."

Red Sox Place Joe Kelly On DL With Shoulder Impingement

Apr 20, 2016 4:05 PM

The Boston Red Sox have placed Joe Kelly on the disabled list with a shoulder impingement.

Kelly didn't feel right leading up to Tuesday night's start against the Tampa Bay Rays. He didn't say anything, believing he could push through the soreness that developed into a pinching sensation.

The right-hander walked off the mound with athletic trainer Brad Pearson with two outs in the first inning of Boston's 10-inning, 3-0 loss. He will be placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday but could miss considerably more time.

"It's really, really frustrating," Kelly said. "After I came out, I sat on my chair and ... it was something going through my head, pondering about what the next step is."
