Ashton Bardzell, a senior at New Jersey's Ramsey High School, has tied Mike Trout's state record for home runs in a season with 18.

Bardzell could be selected in MLB's First-Year Player Draft next month.

Diamondbacks May Be Looking To Save Bonus Money With No. 1 Pick

May 15, 2015 2:41 PM

The Arizona Diamondbacks may think outside the box when it comes to using the No. 1 pick in next month's Major League Baseball draft.

UC Santa Barbara pitcher Dillon Tate, Lake Mary (Fla.) shortstop Brendan Rodgers and Vanderbilt shortstop Dansby Swanson are believed to be the top prospects in the class. However, Arizona is reportedly considering other high school players who might consider lower bonuses.

That would allow the Diamondbacks to have more bonus money for picks No. 43 and 76.

Keith Law Lists Brendan Rodgers As Top Draft Prospect

May 8, 2015 4:22 PM

Keith Law, who works in scouting for ESPN, has updated his list of the top 100 prospects ahead of next month's MLB Draft.

"This year's draft class is indeed one of the weakest in recent memory, not just at the top of the first round, but also in specific areas that are usually deeper, such as college starting pitching and catchers of any stripe. There is, however, a lot of depth in the middle infield," writes Law.

Brendan Rodgers, a shortstop out of Lake Mary High School (FL), is ranked first on Law's list.

Kyler Murray Bypassing MLB Draft

May 6, 2015 3:56 PM

Kyler Murray, the No. 1-ranked dual-threat quarterback in 2015, has announced that he will bypass the upcoming Major League Baseball draft and head to Texas A&M.

Murray signed with Texas A&M in February to play both football and baseball.

A five-star quarterback who was the No. 13 overall player in the country, Murray was a well-regarded baseball prospect and was projected to go as high as the first round of the draft.

Drafted Players Now Eligible To Be Traded After World Series

May 1, 2015 4:14 PM

Major League Baseball informed all 30 teams Friday that players selected in the amateur draft will be permitted to be traded beginning the day after the conclusion of the World Series.

The rule change will become effective following next month's First-Year Player Draft.

The previous rule prohibited teams from trading players until one year after they were drafted.

However, because the rules regarding players to be named later stated that teams had six months to determine the player in question, a loophole had been exploited in which prospects from the most recent draft were simply included as a players to be named later in trades that occurred more than six months after the draft in which they were selected.
