Experts: Clemens Could Be Federally Indicted

Jun 1, 2014 6:37 AM

Experts believe that former Major League pitcher Roger Clemens could be federally indicted for committing perjury when he denied using steroids at the Feb. 13 Mitchell Report hearing, according to The New York Daily News. "The threshold for an indictment is extremely low," said former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart. "Prosecutors just need to establish that there is enough evidence to suggest a crime was committed. They just need to establish probable cause." The perjury would be largely based on the testimony of Andy Pettitte and former trainer Brian McNamee. They'd suggest the evidence was tainted," Rosengart said. "They'd ask, 'Why didn't he bring this to Sen. (George) Mitchell?' They'd want jurors to ask why he hung on to old syringes in the first place. The government might think twice about using this."

Cuban Will 'Pull Out All The Stops' To Buy Cubs

Oct 23, 2014 1:46 PM

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban claims that he will "pull out all the stops" in his bid to buy the Cubs, according to The Chicago Tribune. Cuban is one of the Major League Baseball-approved bidders for the team, with the financial numbers expected to be revealed to the potential buyers soon. "The books hopefully will come out today, Monday or Tuesday," Cuban said. "Then I'll get to work. All the accountants will start doing their things. Hopefully, I'll be in the mix. I think I have a shot." "My job is to convince everybody involved that not only is it a good financial move to sell to Mark Cuban, but it's also, you know, a good partnership move, that I can add value beyond just my checkbook to not just the Cubs, to not just the city of Chicago, but also to Major League Baseball," he said. "It's about being a good citizen. It's about contributing to the community, and to me that's viewed to be just as important as Major League Baseball or the Tribune Co. You know, what can I do for Wrigleyville? What can I do for the community? And what are the ways that I fit in and add value? ? There are a lot of things we can do communitywise that can enhance my chances, and so I'm gonna pull out all the stops."

Bonds Pleads Not Guilty To Refiled Federal Charges

Oct 16, 2014 4:54 PM

Barry Bonds pleaded not guilty to fifteen federal charges of lying to a grand jury about his use of performance-enhancing drugs, according to The Associated Press. He pleaded not guilty to similar accusations in December, but a judge ordered prosecutors to rewrite the indictment. Rosie Kreidler, who is Barry's aunt, was there to represent the family. "The reason that I am here is because his father is deceased," said Kreidler, sister to Bonds' father Bobby Bonds. "This is such a tremendous blow to his family. It is so much on us. He's a great person. We are all praying for him."
