Report: Cubs Invite Three Bidders To Next Round, Including Cuban

Tribune Co. is inviting at least three potential buyers who each submitted bids for the Cubs and Wrigley Field near or above $1 billion to participate in a second round of proposals, according to a person involved in the process, as reported by ESPN.com on Thursday. Several bidders offering between $700M and $900M have been excluded from the second round, according to the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Included in the second round are NBA owner Mark Cuban, the Ricketts family, and a group led by Sports Acquisition Holding Corp. that includes Henry Aaron and former Republican Congressman Jack Kemp.

The Cubs on Tuesday were fined $500,000 by Major League Baseball for violations related to the 2008 draft, according to a report by SI.com. MLB ruled that the Cubs failed to report a draft signing to league offices and put a player on the field before receiving approval, according to the report.

Drug supplier Kirk Radomski has provided documentary evidence to the government showing that he shipped drugs to the Texas home of Roger Clemens, who is under investigation for perjury after telling Congress he never used steroids or human growth hormone. According to sources with close knowledge of the investigation, Radomski has discovered shipping receipts for a package of two kits of human growth hormone that he sent in late 2002 or 2003 to Clemens at the pitcher's mansion in Houston.
