Braves Set New Franchise Single-Season Home Run Record

Aug 31, 2023 6:13 AM

With 30 games remaining, the Atlanta Braves have already set a new franchise mark for single-season home runs.

Orlando Arcia drew the honor of hitting the record-setting 250th home run in the sixth inning of the Braves' 7-3 win over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night at Coors Field.

Atlanta has 40 more homers than any other club.

They are on pace to hit 306 home runs, which would be one short of the Major League record set by the 2019 Minnesota Twins.

Giants' Alex Cobb Loses No-Hitter With Two Outs In Ninth

Aug 30, 2023 8:26 AM

Alex Cobb came within one out of a no-hitter in the San Francisco Giants' 6-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night.

Spencer Steer doubled with two outs in the ninth inning, forcing Cobb to settle for a complete game. His 131 pitches were the most in his career and the most by any pitcher in the majors this season, and 83 were for strikes.

"Still right now, this is surreal," Cobb said. "In the moment, I was just focused on the delivery and the game plan and executing pitches, and then it started to become real. Had some cool thoughts going on in my mind of having my family here and thanking them. It was special, for sure."

He just missed tossing San Francisco's first no-hitter since Chris Heston on June 9, 2015, at the New York Mets.

Jose Altuve Hits For Cycle At Fenway Park

Aug 29, 2023 7:56 AM

Jose Altuve hit for the cycle at Fenway Park on Monday night, capping the accomplishment with a two-run home run over the Green Monster in the eighth inning.

He became just the ninth Houston Astros player to hit for the cycle in the club's 13-5 win over the Boston Red Sox.

Altuve is the first Houston player to do it since Brandon Barnes against the Seattle Mariners on July 19, 2013.

He said that walking to the plate in the eighth, he was well aware of his personal scoreboard.

"It's kind of like in your mind, but you don't want to change your whole approach," he said. "I was just thinking about getting a pitch and trying to drive it."

No player has had 60 doubles since 1936.

Braves Set Franchise Mark With Marcell Ozuna's 25th Home Run

Aug 22, 2023 8:15 AM

The Atlanta Braves lost to the New York Mets on Monday night, but made some history in the process.

Marcell Ozuna had his third multi-homer game of the season, with his solo shot in the second inning giving the Braves five players with 25-plus homers for the first time in franchise history.

Atlanta could join the 2019 Minnesota Twins as the only club(s) in history to have five players with 30-plus homers.

Marlins Prospect Pulls Off Feat Done Just Once Since 1901

Aug 17, 2023 7:36 AM

Miami Marlins prospect Ian Lewis made baseball history on Wednesday night when he stole five bases without recording a hit for Single-A Jupiter.

The feat has been accomplished just once dating back to 1901. Ricky Henderson pulled it off with the Oakland Athletics on July 29, 1989.

Lewis drew just one walk, reaching twice on fielding errors.

He's ranked as Miami's No. 30 prospect by MLB Pipeline.

The Atlanta Braves have hit 225 home runs through 116 games this season, putting them on a historic pace.

At their current pace, the Braves would finish the season with 314 home runs.
