Trout Is First-Ever Rookie With 30 HRs, 40 Steals

Jul 18, 2014 10:15 AM

Mike Trout made Major League history on Sunday when he hit a home run against the Rangers in the first half of a double-header.

Trout now has 30 home runs and 48 stolen bases this season. He is the first rookie ever to surpass 30 homers and 40 steals.

Only two players have ever had 30 homers and 50 stolen bases in a single season -- Eric Davis in 1987 and Barry Bonds in 1990.

The Angels have four games left in the season.

Bailey's No-Hitter Sets Major League Record

Nov 28, 2014 6:16 AM

Homer Bailey's no-hitter against the Pirates on Friday night was the seventh of the season, tying a Major League record.

There were seven no-hitters thrown in both 1990 and 1991.

"I don't think there is anything special about it," Bailey said. "Pitchers just have to find that fortunate night and there's got to be a couple of plays where defense makes a great play. Mix all of those things together, and you can have a very special night."

Jul 16, 2014 8:40 AM

Nova, who spent time on the disabled list, has not won back-to-back starts since June.

The 87 extra-base hits off him are the most yielded by any big league pitcher this season.

Nova is 12-8 with a 5.02 ERA and 153 strikeouts in 170.1 innings.

Ichiro Leading Yankee Charge Towards Postseason

Jun 2, 2014 1:15 PM

Ichiro Suzuki appears to have been rejuvenated by his trade to the Yankees.

Since coming over from the Mariners, the only team he had ever played for, Ichiro is hitting .328 with an .831 OPS and has 12 stolen bases.

He hasn't complained about hitting at the bottom of the lineup and a recent hot streak saw Joe Girardi bat him second on Monday night.

New York is 1.5 games ahead of Baltimore in the American League East.

Law Tabs Trout As Only 'Logical' Choice For MVP

Sep 16, 2014 3:45 PM

Miguel Cabrera has entered the conversation, but Mike Trout is the runaway favorite to win the American League MVP, writes Keith Law.

Cabrera compares with Trout in offensive statistics, but the latter is a better defender and all-around player.

The two players are in a dead heat in on-base percentage, with Cabrera just .001 ahead (.395 to .394) while holding a 58-point (.060) advantage in slugging percentage.

Trout spent the first three weeks of the season in Triple-A. He edges Cabrera in steals with 46 in 50 attempts.

In terms of defense, UZR has Trout saving 12 runs over an average center fielder this year, plus another net run saved in left and right, for a total of 13 runs saved; it has Cabrera costing the Tigers a little more than nine runs compared to an average third baseman.

Adam Dunn (41), Edwin Encarnacion (41) and Curtis Granderson (40) all homered on Monday night, bringing them close to the AL lead.

Cabrera maintains a nice lead in average and RBI.
