Oct 31, 2014 4:47 AM

Josh Reddick, who won a Gold Glove with the A's last season, says he is better looking than Brad Pitt.

"I'm coming out of the box here and saying I'm way better looking," Reddick proclaimed.

Kershaw Regrets Skipping WBC

May 27, 2014 2:59 PM

Clayton Kershaw regrets turning down an invitation to pitch for Team USA at the World Baseball Classic.

He says he was encouraged by the Dodgers to say no.

"That's a huge honor to get to do that. I would have loved to," Kershaw said. "I think I owed it to the team to show I was healthy in spring training, even though I had two starts at 100 percent last year. I wanted to come in and show I'm 100 percent great and I know they didn't feel great about me going.

"Hopefully, in four years I'll get the honor to do it again, but I'll definitely have regrets watching it."

Andrus Sits Due To Soreness From Tattoo

Oct 31, 2014 10:31 AM

Elvis Andrus was scratched from Thursday's Cactus League game due to muscle soreness in his left arm caused by a new tattoo.

Andrus was given an off day Wednesday after playing consecutive games earlier in the week, and he apparently used some of the downtime to add new ink.

"Elvis has been working hard, and having another off day isn't going to hurt him," Ron Washington said. "He'll be ready tomorrow."

Cano Receives 'Significant' Offer From Yankees

Oct 31, 2014 5:48 PM

The Yankees have "made a significant offer" to Robinson Cano in order to keep him from hitting the free agent market after the 2013 season.

While it was clear the offer had not been accepted, Brian Cashman would not say whether it had been rejected or was still being considered.

"We've made a significant offer. That's what I thought Hal [Steinbrenner] said to everybody," Cashman said. "I'm not going to comment anymore. I thought Hal announced that we made a significant offer. And we've had a few conversations. I thought I was restating Hal's stuff. If I said a little more, that's all I'm saying."

Cano Doesn't Think Yankees Will Lack Power

Oct 14, 2014 12:00 AM

The Yankees don't have nearly as much power in their lineup as we have come to expect, but Robinson Cano doesn't believe they'll hit significantly fewer home runs.

Cano will try to do his part to bring extra power.

"I don't want ... to put anything in my mind that I have to do more than what I'm capable of," he said. "I just have to go out there and play the game. We've got guys here who can step it up

"It's hard to replace a guy like [Granderson], but other guys can hopefully step it up and do the job and help the team win some games. Sometimes you don't need a home run to win a game. There's a lot of ways you can win a game."

Dodgers Won't Use Harang As Reliever

Jun 7, 2014 10:20 PM

The Dodgers have eight starting pitchers for five slots, meaning they'll have to move some to the bullpen and perhaps trade one or two.

Don Mattingly made it clear on Wednesday that Los Angeles won't convert Harang into a reliever.

"Aaron Harang doesn't seem like the kind of guy that pitches out of the pen," Mattingly said. "To me he's more of a guy that paints. He keeps you in the game. He's just not that guy that's going in and overpower you."

That could mean that Harang will be dangled in a trade.

Beltran: Pressure Of Contract Won't Bother Wright

Oct 19, 2014 9:25 PM

Carlos Beltran doesn't believe David Wright, his former teammate, should feel much pressure playing under his new $138 million contract.

"Sometimes you really want to do more to help the team because you feel it's on your shoulders," said Beltran, who signed a seven-year deal worth $119 million with the Mets before the 2005 season. "But with David I feel it's going to be a little different. He's been with the organization a long time, so there is nothing he needs to change."

Wright shouldn't have to impress anyone.

"He just has to go out there and play the game and do the best he can to help the team," Beltran said. "It's a new ball club and there are a lot of new faces, but he's going to be the guy to help those kids try and play the game the right way."

Prices of nachos, pretzels, popcorn, pizza and bratwursts will drop by 25 percent. Plus, soda refills will be only $2.

Middlebrooks To See Wrist Specialist After Being Cleared By Red Sox

May 8, 2014 6:36 AM

Will Middlebrooks says that his right wrist checked out fine with Boston's medical staff, but he will see a specialist to determine if more tests are needed.

Middlebrooks left Wednesday's spring game after hurting his right wrist on a checked swing in the first inning. It's the same wrist he fractured less than seven months earlier on an errant pitch, an injury that cut short his rookie season.

"I was just frustrated," Middlebrooks said. "I've been busting my butt to get this thing back to where I can play, and in my head I was worried there might be a setback. I didn't think I broke it again, but it was just an awkward feeling. Worried me for sure. But I feel fine."
